RUN RSVP: Saturday 09/21

Long runs are planned for this weekend. For the Novice plan, this will be your longest run to date. For the Intermediate plan this will be your first 20 miler. No question, this will be a challenging day, but you have trained for this and are prepared.

Tracy, Ryan, and Scott ran their long run today and I only plan to do 18 tomorrow. This may make a very small 20-mile group. When you reply, please say how far you plan to run. If you are doing 18 miles, you can follow the 20-mile route and not do the last part over by the Outback Steakhouse.

Run Details:

  • Day: Saturday @ 6:30 a.m.
  • Where: Harris Teeter
  • Tar River: 5 miles ** NEW **
  • Novice: 16 miles
  • Intermediate: 20 miles
  • Supported: Yes - Gels, Powerade, and Water
  • Weather: Forecast

Tar River Training: You will notice I added a third shorter route option above (Tar River). This route is for those who want to train for the Tar River Half Marathon on 12/08/07. I know other people visit the blog and would like to come join us for a run. Because we are deep into our marathon training now, our runs are long. This does not however mean that we are a group of elite runners that you should feel intimidated by. We are actually quite the opposite.

About Us: Most of us just started running marathons in the past one to three years. Many of us our training for our first. If you read the blog you may be fooled into thinking we are old pros at this, but truthfully we are just "ordinary joes" trying to do "extraordinary things." (Hey. . . that might look good on a shirt) After showing up one day, you will realize everyone fits in at the RMEC.

Directions: I will add the written directions to the maps shortly. I wrote them last night, just need to get things updated.

Start Time: 6:30 will still be a little dark, so please be careful. The routes start going down Sunset to Candlewood. Be smart, and do not run out in the middle of the road.

Lots of turns in a 20 mile run. Please review the directions and the map PRIOR to the run.

Let me know if there are errors. Thanks!

I will be there to do the 5 miler for the Tar River 1/2 if someone else will be running the same route.
I will keep checking throughout the day.

Jennifer,
I'll be doing 16, but the first 4 miles is the same as the 5 mile route. You'll leave us when you turn left at Sheffield at about 3.96 miles, and you're home free from there. I'll be running about 11 minute miles with some other slow runners, and we'd be glad to have you join us.
